HEIDENHAIN Showcases New Products at AMB 2022: TD 110 Tool Breakage Detector

At the AMB exhibition, HEIDENHAIN will showcase its innovative TD 110 Tool Breakage Detector, designed to identify broken tools with diameters as small as 0.4 mm. Utilizing an inductive measurement principle, this detector performs non-contact monitoring of tool length variations exceeding 2 mm—even during spindle operation at working speeds, enabling in-process inspection directly within the machining area.

Each tool change can save up to 6 seconds, delivering significant time and cost efficiencies. The rugged yet compact TD 110 can be flexibly mounted near the work area on various machine tools. Detection signals are transmitted to the CNC system via a probe interface, which can then display alerts, trigger an NC stop, or initiate user-defined responses—enhancing process reliability.


HEIDENHAIN's new TD 110 Tool Breakage Detector can directly detect minor tool damage during machining operations and rapid tool movements within the working area.

HEIDENHAIN TS 460 & TS 760 Touch Probes: Maximizing Productive Machining Time

Faster speed and setting up and measuring workpieces inside the machine tool: The HEIDENHAIN TS 460 workpiece probe is highly effective, supporting a measurement speed of up to 3000 mm/min. It can save up to 30% of probing time, providing more valuable production time for machine operators in the workshop. The TS 460 is equipped with a flushing/air-blowing cleaning function, which can remove any chips from the probing surface, effectively avoiding incorrect measurement results and achieving higher measurement accuracy. Moreover, this probe can be optionally equipped with an effective anti-collision protection function, which not only prevents probe damage but also provides thermal insulation for the probe.

The HEIDENHAIN TS 760 probe can measure workpieces with extremely high 3D measurement accuracy and minimal probing force. Therefore, this probe is an ideal choice for measuring precision and sensitive workpieces in the mold manufacturing industry. The measurement speed can reach up to 1000 mm/min, which is highly efficient.

In many applications, these linear scales and encoders do not require compressed air during operation. By reducing the need for sealing air, users can benefit from the full closed-loop position measurement technology and significantly reduce system costs. Moreover, as a result of eliminating the need for sealing air, machine tool carbon emissions can be reduced by up to 99%.

The HEIDENHAIN LB 383 C: A new linear scale that meets the requirements for measuring large length axes

The HEIDENHAIN LB 383 C enclosed linear scale is a new star for position measurement of large-length machine tool axes. It offers large-length measurement, with lengths reaching up to 72 meters. The new LB 383 C is paired with a robustly designed read head, which provides stronger resistance to contamination while maintaining extremely high rigidity in the measuring direction. It supports higher process reliability and stronger control parameters, thus enhancing the performance of machine tools. The LB 383 C has the same dimensions as the LC 200 linear scale, which saves users money. It not only reduces the need for inventory but also eliminates the need for special connectors that require compressed air.
